Dr. Safa obtained his medical degree and completed his residency in plastic and reconstructive surgery at Stanford University. He was subsequently fellowship trained in microsurgery and hand surgery at the Buncke Clinic where he has been on staff since 2007.

Dr. Safa is an internationally renowned Reconstructive Microsurgeon at the Buncke Clinic in San Francisco, widely considered to be the birthplace of microsurgery. Dr. Safa serves as Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at both Stanford and UCSF divisions of plastic surgery. He is highly sought after as a surgical educator and has trained hundreds of surgeons around the world in all aspects of microsurgery.

Dr. Safa is also the Medical Director of the San Francisco Transgender Institute. He and his team have performed more than 350 Phalloplasty surgeries since 2012, making him one of the most experienced Phalloplasty surgeons in the world.

He is widely published in academic journals and has co-authored numerous papers on the subjects of microsurgery and Phalloplasty, including:
